What Is a D&I Training? Building Awareness, Empathy, and Belonging in Universities

October 18, 2025

Behind the acronym “D&I” – Diversity and Inclusion – lies more than a policy topic. In universities, it means creating environments where every voice matters, every individual can belong, and every difference becomes a strength.

A D&I Training is a learning experience designed to build awareness, empathy, and practical skills for making academic communities fairer and more accessible.

Within NEOLAiA, thanks to WP3 work, D&I trainings are part of a broader commitment: to shape a European alliance where diversity is not only represented but actively lived, valued, and celebrated.

  • for administrative staff, taking part in a D&I Training is about recognizing and removing everyday barriers — linguistic, digital, or cultural — that can affect inclusion. Participants learn how to design accessible services, communicate with empathy, and foster equity in their daily work.
  • for students, a D&I Training is a chance to become mentors, facilitators, and changemakers. Through interactive workshops and creative exercises, they explore identity, belonging, and collaboration across cultures, building stronger, more inclusive campuses.

In an ever-evolving academic world, D&I Trainings are an investment in the future: empowering people to be aware, empathetic, and capable of turning diversity into a shared strength, making NEOLAiA a living example of inclusion across Europe.
