The University of Salerno, through the NEOLAiA European University Alliance, continues its collaboration with Fondazione Carisal and BIMED to strengthen the relationship between the University and local communities, fostering new forms of cooperation with public authorities.
An operational meeting was held at the headquarters of Fondazione Carisal with the Deputy Mayor of Tramonti, Vincenzo Savino. The meeting was attended by Vittorio Scarano (University of Salerno and UNISA Coordinator for NEOLAiA), Andrea Iovino (BIMED), and Valerio Salvatore (Fondazione Carisal).
The initiative is part of the activities promoted under the Memorandum of Understanding “NEOLAiA – UNISA at the service of local communities”, signed by the Rector of the University of Salerno on 17 April, with the aim of promoting research, education and third mission activities in close collaboration with local stakeholders.
During the meeting, participants shared the intention to launch a pilot initiative focused on the inland areas of Campania, starting from the municipality of Tramonti and the Monti Lattari Regional Park. The objective is to identify the needs expressed by local administrations and transform them into opportunities for collaboration with the University.
Over the past months, a listening and co-design process based on the Double Diamond methodology has led to the identification of seven priority thematic areas, which will serve as the foundation for the next phase of collaboration with the University’s Departments.
NEOLAiA is now engaging the University’s Departments to involve researchers and academics whose expertise can contribute to addressing these themes and developing scientifically grounded solutions to real territorial challenges.
The next step will be a full-day co-design event in Tramonti, bringing together representatives from the host municipality and neighbouring local authorities, alongside academics, researchers and technical staff. Through thematic workshops, participants will jointly identify priorities, explore possible solutions and define future collaborative actions between the University and local communities.
This initiative represents a concrete example of NEOLAiA’s commitment to strengthening the role of European universities as drivers of social innovation and regional development by connecting academic expertise with the needs of local communities
