On 9 June 2026, the conference “Data, Public Domain and Open Access” was held at the Academy of Fine Arts of Naples. The event was the result of a collaboration between the Campania coordination group “Schools and Universities” of Wikimedia Italia, the Chair of Law of the Arts, Design, Performing Arts and Cultural Heritage at the Academy of Fine Arts of Naples, the Departments of Cultural Heritage Sciences and Humanities of the University of Salerno, and the Department of Humanities of the University of Naples “Federico II”.
The conference provided an opportunity to present the NEOLAiA project and to create the Italian Wikipedia entry dedicated to the Alliance. During the first part of the event, particularly in the panel devoted to the use of open data for humanities and legal research, Professor Vittorio Scarano (NEOLAiA Project Coordinator for the University of Salerno and leader of WP8) presented the project’s objectives, activities and achievements in a talk entitled “Open Science and Open Data in a European University: An Experience with 9 European Countries in NEOLAiA.”
The second part of the day was dedicated to an editing marathon (known as an editathon) focused on content across Wikimedia project platforms. In this context, with the support of experienced Wikipedians, Professor Scarano and the University of Salerno team created an Italian Wikipedia entry dedicated to the Alliance. The editathon also provided an opportunity to reflect on the potential future involvement of Wikimedia platforms in the activities of NEOLAiA’s WP8.
