From June 18 to 20, 2026, the University of Jaén hosted the II Symposium on Multilingualism, an international event dedicated to language policy, multilingualism, and the internationalization of higher education. Organized within the framework of the NEOLAiA Alliance, the symposium brought together representatives from partner universities to exchange ideas and share good practices on multilingualism and internationalization.
The University of Salerno (UNISA) was represented by Professor Maria Rosaria Colucciello, Vice-Rector Delegate for Mobility Policies, who participated in the Round Table of Vice-Rectors for Internationalization. The discussion focused on the role of language policies in promoting more inclusive and internationally oriented universities. During the round table, UNISA presented several initiatives that support inclusive internationalization. Among them was the Buddy System, which connects international and local students to encourage integration, language learning, and intercultural exchange. UNISA also highlighted the WE.FOR project, a national initiative involving 41 Italian higher education institutions that promotes the inclusion of international students, migrants, and beneficiaries of international protection through staff training, multilingual services, and innovative support tools. Together, these initiatives show how internationalization extends beyond student mobility to create a more welcoming and inclusive academic environment.
UNISA also contributed to the Symposium’s scientific program by chairing a session on multilingualism, where researchers from NEOLAiA partner universities discussed innovative approaches to language education and multilingual learning.
By contributing to the program, UNISA reaffirmed its commitment to multilingualism and intercultural dialogue while strengthening collaboration within the NEOLAiA Alliance. The Symposium offered a valuable opportunity to exchange experiences and explore new strategies for making higher education more inclusive and internationally connected.
