1. How would you describe your visiting experience at Örebro University as part of the ESR Mentorship Programme?
The experience at Örebro University for the ESR Mentorship Programme was extremely positive and enriching, both from an academic and a personal perspective. During the visit, Carmine Sessa and I had the opportunity to explore the city and the university campus, gaining direct insight into the environment and context of Örebro University.
2. During your visit, you attended a PhD thesis defence. What was that experience like, and what did you take away from it, considering it was outside your research field?
Although it was in the legal field, which is different from my own research area in engineering, it was nevertheless a very valuable experience. It provided an opportunity for interdisciplinary reflection and offered useful insights for my own future PhD defence.
3. Could you mention one aspect of the experience that you particularly appreciated?
One aspect I particularly appreciated was the interaction with Professor Magnus Kristoffersson, who supported us throughout the visit with great availability and repeatedly connected us with professionals and researchers working on topics related to both Carmine’s and my own research interests. This made the stay even more stimulating and meaningful.
The visit also represented an excellent opportunity to experience Sweden and become familiar with a different cultural context. Among the most memorable aspects were the summer nights, which never become completely dark, as daylight remains faintly visible throughout the night.
4. You also had the opportunity to present your research. Could you tell us about the project you shared and its main objectives?
I presented recent developments of a study carried out together with Professor Magnus Kristoffersson on the potential impact of 3D printing technology in the industrial sector and the circular economy, with a particular focus on the Swedish regulatory framework. I explored how existing regulations can support the development of an emerging construction industry that is more environmentally conscious and capable of addressing housing shortages.
Overall, the level of satisfaction was very high. It was a well-organised, stimulating experience rich in opportunities for exchange, which I consider highly valuable for my research path.
