1. Could you briefly introduce yourself and describe your role at the University of Salerno?
My name is Maria Grazia Romano, and I am an Associate Professor in the Department of Economics and Statistics at the University of Salerno, where I teach International Economics on the three-year Bachelor’s degree programme in Economics and Business, and Asset Pricing on the Master’s degree programme in Statistical Sciences for Finance. My research interests focus primarily on microeconomics, behavioural economics and finance.
2. What motivated you to take part in this mobility experience?
The main motivation was the desire to strengthen academic ties with the University of Tours and explore new synergies within the NEOLAiA network. I wanted to exchange ideas with colleagues working in similar research fields to initiate scientific collaborations and discover new teaching methodologies to integrate into my professional path. The mobility took place from March 31 to April 4, 2025.
3. What did you find most enriching about the experience, both professionally and personally?
From a professional point of view, the most stimulating aspect was the direct exchange and critical discussion of scientific issues with the team at the University of Tours, which laid the foundations for future joint projects and publications. On a personal level, the warm welcome I received and my immersion in an international academic environment provided an important opportunity for personal growth, cultural openness and personal enrichment.
4. How do you think you will be able to apply what you learned during the mobility experience to your work, whether in teaching, research or other activities?
In teaching, I intend to integrate new perspectives and case studies that emerged during the visit, encouraging students to embrace an international outlook and potentially promoting study periods at the University of Tours. As for research, the insights gathered in Tours will serve as the starting point for submitting international research projects and developing joint scientific publications.
5. Would you advise your colleagues to take part in a mobility programme at NEOLAiA universities? If so, why?
Absolutely. NEOLAiA mobilities are not just business trips, but genuine opportunities for professional and personal growth. They allow you to break out of local academic routines, build strong collaborative networks across Europe, and experience firsthand the value of European university cooperation.
