As part of the first cycle of the Early Stage Researcher (ESR) Mentorship Programme, provided for by WP5 of the NEOLAiA project, a workshop entitled “Interdisciplinary Research” was held. The meeting, organised by the team from the University of Salerno, was attended by thirteen mentees — PhD students, post-docs and young researchers working at the nine partner universities of the NEOLAiA University Alliance. The online workshop was led by Prof. Erika Marie Pace (Department of Humanities, Philosophy and Education), Prof. Bice Della Piana (Department of Business Sciences – Management & Innovation Systems) and Prof. Vittorio Scarano (Department of Computer Science), who guided participants in an in-depth reflection on the theoretical and practical advantages and challenges of research work in multidisciplinary, transdisciplinary and interdisciplinary teams. The objectives of the workshop were to share reflections on interdisciplinary research by adopting an interdisciplinary approach; to listen to participants’ opinions and experiences regarding their involvement in interdisciplinary research projects; to offer practical suggestions for making collaboration between disciplines an enjoyable and effective experience for all those involved; and finally, to encourage participants to identify possible interconnections between their own research areas and those of other scholars.
