UNISA and WP9: First Steps Towards a Digital Platform for Micro-Credentials

January 23, 2025

On Wednesday, January 22, 2025, the first meeting took place at the Rectorate with Salvatore Ferrandino of the Coordination Office for IT Services and Digital Transition, Alfonso Sparano from the Technology Systems Office, Prof. Vittorio Scarano, and the UNISA WP9 team. The meeting marked the starting point for a technical dialogue regarding micro-credentials and their issuance through digital platforms.

During the meeting, the main topics related to micro-credentials were discussed: examples of European Digital Credentials, building templates, the issuance process, the recipient view, and integration with digital wallets such as Europass. Furthermore, the WP9 team showcased the current status of the open EDCI platform, which was operational with a test e-seal, demonstrating the ability to issue micro-credentials.

The main goal of the meeting was to discuss the technical development possibilities of the platform before addressing organizational, educational, and legal aspects.

This first meeting clarified opportunities and operational approaches for integrating micro-credentials into the university’s digital systems, laying the foundation for a structured collaboration between WP9 and the UNISA Technical Office.
