Following the submission of the Excel file by the Statistical Office, the process of cleaning and filtering the data on students enrolled at UNISA has officially begun. The aim of this work is to create the final dataset in accordance with the template developed over the past few months.
The first partial data submission was made on 31st of July, and the final, updated version was shared in September. Once we obtained the final data, we began creating the 2023/24 Degree Programmes Dataset for UNISA. This process will be repeated every year to ensure continuity of data availability in an open format.
The dataset also includes a column for ISCED (International Standard Classification of Education) codes, which classify courses according to international standards to facilitate comparisons between different education systems. In order to enter these codes correctly, we first requested the assistance of Dr Maria Rizzo, Head of the International Office at UNISA, and then the support of the NEOLAiA departmental delegates at UNISA. In addition to the ISCED codes, the delegates also assisted us in providing the correct English translations of the individual courses of study.
At the same time, all WP8 members will create similar datasets on the 2023/24 degree programmes, with the aim of comparing enrolment dynamics and trends, and the educational offerings of NEOLAiA universities. This data is essential for increasing transparency, promoting collaboration between universities, supporting student and teacher mobility, and facilitating exchanges and joint projects within the alliance.
