In recent years, the role of universities in building a more inclusive, innovative and resilient Europe has become increasingly central. Research is no longer limited to academic circles: today, it drives social transformation, promotes international collaboration and contributes to addressing global challenges. In this scenario, the University of Salerno has strengthened its role as a proactive and reliable partner in European research and innovation.
UNISA’s commitment
As part of Work Package 8, the University of Salerno has collected and systematised information on EU-funded projects not only for its own university, but also for all partners in the NEOLAiA network. This mapping and analysis contributes to strengthening the visibility and impact of research and innovation activities developed at consortium level.
Between 2021 and 2025, UNISA participated in 47 EU-funded projects under the Horizon Europe and Erasmus+ programmes, addressing issues ranging from digital transition to democratic governance, education to sustainability, and the enhancement of cultural heritage.
The UNISA EU-Funded Projects 2021–2027 dataset, updated in March 2025, provides a comprehensive overview of the initiatives launched during this period. Detailed information is available for each project, including ID, acronym, title, duration, reference programme, role of the university, funding details and reference links. The dataset will be further updated in the following years to provide an overview of the University’s commitment to European programmes that is always up to date and transparent.
This data, which specifically covers the Horizon Europe and Erasmus+ programmes, provides a transparent and structured overview of the University’s international commitment.
So far, UNISA has been involved in 25 Erasmus+ projects (including KA1, KA2, and Jean Monnet) and 22 Horizon Europe projects, with a focus on MSCA and clusters on climate, resilience, and innovation. Among the most relevant calls are ErasmusPlus_KA2_2021, with 5 projects, Jean Monnet Projects 2022–2024, with 6 projects, and the HORIZON-MSCA-DN and PF actions dedicated to doctoral and post-doctoral networks. A total of 39 projects are active and 8 have already been completed, a constantly growing portfolio that reflects the vitality and international vision of the University.
The university also holds key positions in the management of the initiatives: it is the coordinator in 17 projects, a partner in 24, and is also involved as an Associated Partner and Third Party. This plurality of roles proves UNISA’s ability to lead and, at the same time, contribute in a qualified manner to complex and strategic projects.
Beyond the numbers, there is the joint commitment of professors, researchers, students, administrative staff and international partners. Together, they work towards a common goal: to promote knowledge, stimulate innovation and encourage openness beyond borders, contributing to a more fair, sustainable and competitive Europe.
