From 30 June to 4 July 2025, the University of Salerno hosted the Focus Academy “Personal Health Data Management”, an Erasmus+ Blended Intensive Programme that transformed the Fisciano campus into an international laboratory of ideas, innovation, and collaboration.
The initiative, promoted within the framework of WP2 – Teaching and Learning, brought together students and faculty from different countries and disciplinary backgrounds, with a common goal: to explore the challenges and opportunities linked to health data management in the digital age.
An Interdisciplinary Journey
The programme offered participants a unique opportunity to engage with highly topical issues, such as:
- International HL7 standards and the FHIR model;
- The data lifecycle and the ethical challenges that accompany it;
- Privacy protection under the GDPR and the AI Act;
- Stakeholder engagement through a human-centered approach.
Lectures and project work fostered a genuine dialogue across computer science, law, management, and health sciences, creating fertile ground for the development of innovative ideas.
From Online to the Heart of the Campus
The learning path was structured in two phases:
- The virtual component (9 – 20 June): lectures, interactive materials, and online meetings that laid the groundwork for the on-site experience;
- The physical component (30 June – 4 July): five intensive days at the Fisciano campus, with classroom activities, workshops, and group projects, culminating in the presentation of final outcomes in the prestigious Sala del Gonfalone of the Municipality of Salerno.
Culture, Social Life, and Local Discovery
Alongside academic activities, participants enjoyed moments of cultural exchange and conviviality: a visit to the archaeological site of Paestum, an experience at the Vannulo dairy farm, and a closing evening in the evocative Cilento landscape allowed them to discover the Campania region while strengthening personal and professional bonds.
UNISA’s Role
As coordinator, the University of Salerno led the programme in close synergy with the University of Nicosia, Örebro University, and the Šiauliai State University of Applied Sciences. The UNISA WP2 team, with Prof. Christian Carmine Esposito (DI) and Prof. Bice Della Piana (DISA-MIS), oversaw every academic and organisational detail, enabling an experience that left a profound impact on participants.
Through this Focus Academy, UNISA once again demonstrated its ability to combine innovation, internationalisation, and teaching quality, making a significant contribution to Digital Transformation, one of NEOLAiA’s key pillars.
