Review of the modules of the Common Accreditation Certificate for Plurilingual Education (CoACe)

Work Package 7 of NEOLAiA is advancing the development of the Common Accreditation Certificate for Plurilingual Education (CoACe), a training and certification pathway designed for university lecturers to strengthen the skills needed to teach in plurilingual and intercultural contexts.

The certificate, in line with the recommendations of the Council of Europe (2022), consists of 100 hours of training divided into five modules of 20 hours each:

  • theoretical foundations of bi- and plurilingual education;
  • innovative methodologies and digital learning environments;
  • academic communication skills;
  • inclusion and management of linguistic diversity;
  • alignment between teaching and assessment.

Responsibility for the modules was shared among the alliance universities, which took on the roles of author, co-author or reviewer depending on the case.

On 3 April 2025, a face-to-face meeting dedicated entirely to the review of the CoACe modules was held at the “Stefan cel Mare” University of Suceava (Romania).

During the day, the five modules were discussed in parallel sessions, with the active participation of all partner universities. The University of Salerno (UNISA) acted as official reviewer for Modules 4 and 5, also providing feedback on Module 3.

The refinement work continued over the summer and led to the completion of the final versions of the modules by September 2025.

Next steps

The final modules will be included in Deliverable D7.1, due in December 2025, which will comprise around 500 pages of materials, bibliography, teaching schedules, and practical examples.

Starting from the academic year 2025/2026, the CoACe materials will be piloted in a Blended Intensive Programme (BIP) featuring the main contents of each module, with an online phase followed by an in-person phase at the University of Jaén.

In addition, a multi-year series of BIPs has been planned to ensure the continuous dissemination of the certificate and to consolidate the plurilingual dimension of teacher training across NEOLAiA universities.
