Within NEOLAiA, the sharing of knowledge and good practices is a fundamental pillar in building a more inclusive and innovative European university. This is why NEObest was created: a tool dedicated to collecting and disseminating the best diversity and inclusion (D&I) practices already active within the partner universities.
What are NEObest Practices?
NEObest is much more than a catalogue of experiences: it is a platform for mutual learning, where each university contributes projects and initiatives that have already demonstrated their positive impact. These best practices are made available to the entire Alliance to be replicated, adapted, and enriched, with the goal of creating an increasingly solid network of actions in support of diversity and inclusion.
UNISA’s Best Practices
The University of Salerno has also made an important contribution, sharing some of its most significant initiatives:
- R&I Peers Project (Interdepartmental Observatory for Gender Studies): an international project led by Prof. Maria Rosaria Pelizzari (DIPSUM), dedicated to promoting Gender Equality Plans, which has increased awareness and gender representation in decision-making processes.
- Research on Gender Bias in Video Game Design: an innovative line of research led by Dr. Annachiara Guerra (DISPAC), addressing stereotypes and representations in digital media, contributing to a fairer and more inclusive gaming industry.
- Gender Medicine Clinic (within A.O.U. San Giovanni di Dio e Ruggi d’Aragona): one of the first gender medicine clinics in Italy, created to respond to specific health needs related to gender and identity, established and managed by Prof. Amalia Filippelli (DIPMED).
- Buddy System Project: a programme that promotes internationalisation and intercultural support by pairing Italian and international students to foster inclusion and cultural exchange, created and managed by Prof. Bice Della Piana (DISA-MIS) and the 3CLab research laboratory, of which she is the Scientific Coordinator.
- Job in Campus for Inclusion: a project supporting the employment of students with disabilities, fostering fair and inclusive job opportunities, created and carried out by the University’s Student Support Office.
Why NEObest Practices Matter
UNISA’s NEObest practices represent concrete examples of how the university is transforming inclusion principles into tangible actions, with a positive impact on students, faculty, and the wider community. Sharing them within NEOLAiA not only highlights the results achieved but also inspires other universities and contributes to building a European model of an inclusive university, where diversity becomes a fundamental resource.
