In Work Package 8, activities dedicated to Citizen Science have begun, as planned in the Grant Agreement and Task 8.3. The initiative aims to promote sharing and collaboration in the fields of Open Science and Open Data, supporting researchers, students, staff and citizens in the production of high-quality open data, in line with the FAIR principles (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Re-usable).
The paradigm adopted is that of Collaborative Citizen Open Science, which involves NEOLAiA partners and citizens in co-creation and collaborative science processes. This approach reflects one of the founding values of the alliance, enshrined in Pillar 2 – Diversity and Inclusion, with the aim of making research open to a plurality of actors and perspectives.
Each NEOLAiA partner shared their own Local Engagement Plan, created on the basis of a template provided to them, containing proposals for citizen science activities and the co-creation of Open Data. The plans include training initiatives, workshops, citizen and researcher involvement and dissemination activities, designed in a bottom-up manner by local research teams, which independently define methods, timelines, and budgets. The activities carried out will be monitored over time to ensure their quality, consistency and impact within the NEOLAiA community.
The NEOLAiA Open Science Hub thus builds an open, inclusive and collaborative ecosystem, in which knowledge becomes a shared asset between researchers, citizens and institutions.
