Projects funded by the European Union are key tools for promoting international cooperation, scientific excellence and social impact. These projects offer universities the opportunity to experiment with new methodologies, develop interdisciplinary skills and create strong networks with academic institutions, public bodies and companies across Europe. Participating in these programmes means actively contributing to the construction of a more sustainable, digital and inclusive society.

European projects also have added value: they encourage the meeting of different cultures and approaches, strengthen the ability to tackle complex challenges and offer new growth prospects for academic communities and territories.

Among the most important initiatives are two flagship programmes, Horizon Europe and Erasmus+.

Horizon Europe is the European Union’s main instrument for supporting research and innovation. With a budget of almost €100 billion for the period 2021-2027, the programme funds projects that address issues crucial to the future of the continent and the planet, such as climate change, digital transition, health and well-being, security, societal resilience, sustainable energy and the protection of natural resources. Horizon Europe also stands out for its focus on Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA), which support the training and mobility of researchers at all levels, promoting the development of advanced skills and the creation of international careers.

Erasmus+, on the other hand, is the European programme dedicated to education, training, youth and sport. In addition to the well-known student mobility programme, the programme now includes a wide range of opportunities: exchanges of good practices between educational institutions, strategic partnership projects, educational innovation initiatives, training courses for teachers and programmes to promote active citizenship and social inclusion. Thanks to Erasmus+, thousands of students, researchers and professionals have the opportunity to gain educational experience abroad, improving their linguistic, intercultural and professional skills.

These programmes do not just provide funding, they also create opportunities for dialogue and collaboration that enable ideas to be turned into reality. Every European project leaves a legacy that goes beyond the duration of the funding itself: collaborative networks, shared knowledge, new methodologies and solutions that can have a positive impact on society.

In a rapidly changing global context, European projects are therefore a fundamental pillar for building a more equal, sustainable and innovative common future.
